ICT SUMMIT TANZANIA 2011

The summit is designed to accommodate participation from local and international manufacturers, service providers, distributors, retailers, academics, Government officials, and consumers of information and communications technology (ICT).  The 2½ day event provides ICT stakeholders a forum to help shape Government policy, establish meaningful contacts, showcase products and services and to discuss and develop private and public partnerships and collaborations.The theme for the 2011 summit is “Harnessing ICT Invention & Innovation for Balanced Growth and Sustainable Development”and it aims to achieve the following objectives;

·         Strengthen developmental oriented public-private partnerships in the ICT sector for balance growth sustainable development;

·         Discuss and debate policy options employing ICT as a primary tool for development in Tanzania; and

·         Provide business to business and business to consumer platforms for ICT firms from Tanzania and around the world.

Local and internationally recognized ICT gurus including practitioners from Finland, India and the USA’s Silicon Valley will attend this year’s summit to share their expertise and experience on harnessing ICT for civic, economic and cultural development.

The summit is structured in a way to maximize information sharing and also to provide an opportunity for participants to offer opinions, strategies, services and products that may further Tanzania’s development goals. Sessions have been planned specifically for information sharing as well as debate.  There will also be numerous opportunities for participants to meet in small groups to either share information or debate and comment on specific issues and strategies.

Participants will be organized into focal groups that reflect the participant’s industry sub-sector interest The Sub-sector focal groups are  as follows:

  • Internet                                  
  • Broadcast                               

After the Main Presentations, participants will have the opportunity caucus in their focal groups or in self-selected groups in order to comment and provide analysis of the presentation from the perspective of their focal group. The comments and analysis will be shared and debated in a follow-up plenary session.

The Main Dialogue & Presentation Forum

The sessions will begin immediately after the official opening on Day 1 and the morning of Day 2. It will attract the participation of all the delegates across board. At the second session of Day I, there will presentations regarding successful case studies of how ICT was used or is being used to foster sustainable development goals. The presentations will focus on India, Japan, Finland and USA.  Following the presentations, the delegates will select workshops and discuss a presentation from a Tanzania perspective. Each workshop will focus on one particular case study. At the conclusion, the Summit will reconvene in a plenary session for a  panel discussion and debate with representatives of the various workshops. There will also be a chairperson and a rap porter for record keeping.

Day 2 will begin with 2-3 presentations regarding how ICT can further Tanzania’s educational goals. As was done on Day 1 the delegate will discuss the presentations in small groups; their Focal Groups and reconvene for a plenary session panel discussion. The afternoon session will feature a show case of new products and services, a presentation on future ICT trends and a presentation and discussion regarding the type of technology, products and services that need to be developed or deployed to specifically address Tanzania’s development goals in education, commerce, government and health.

The last day of the summit will be devoted to summarizing outputs, recommendations and unresolved issues.
